China launches Gaofen-2 satellite

The second high-definition satellite in China’s Gaofen series was successfully launched at 11:15 Beijing Time on Tuesday, August 19. The satellite was launched by Long March-4B carrier rocket, also known as the Cheng Zheng-4B (CZ-4B), from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the Shanxi Province in northern China. Gaofen-2 (GF2) is the second of seven satellites to be launched before 2020, known as the CHEOS constellation, for high-definition study of geographical and resource surveillance, climate change monitoring, precision agriculture, disaster relief and city planning.
